The quest is over. I've never found a solution for storing mic stands that didn't suck for some reason or another... until today.

Brian and our facilities guy Greg figured this out. It's a hanger that is designed for rakes and such, but works great with mic stands. Brian picked it up at Home Depot for about $17, but I wasn't able to find it online.

Here's what it looks like:

We have something like that in our laundry room to hold mops and brooms that cost $5 or $10 (?), but that looks a little sturdier than the plastic thing we have. There's rubber in the arms that hold the brooms in place, but yours looks like it might be clamps. Neat idea!
